Hi! Liz Handsley here.

I created this podcast in June 2023, because I know how confusing it can be for parents when you read bits of information about research and policy developments in the media, but you want a deeper understanding to help you raise happy, healthy kids in this media-saturated world. As a law professor and long-time advocate for children’s rights as media consumers, I’m able to provide reliable information to help you feel confident in the decisions you make for your screen-loving kids.

You can find out about me here.

In the first 40 or so episodes, you’ll also hear the contributions of my former co-host Dr Kim Le, a child psychiatrist and standup comedian. Kim has said he’ll come back for guest appearances, so if you’re keen to hear him again, let me know!

Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get full access to the podcast and website. Never miss an update.

All content and benefits are available to all subscribers, but you do have an option to kick in $5 AUD a month to show your appreciation for the podcast. And if you’re feeling extra generous and/or appreciative, you can become a Founding Member for $200 AUD.

All proceeds go to Children and Media Australia, the organisation of which I’m President. (And if you’d rather, you can donate direct to them - that way it will be tax-deductible in Australia if it’s $2 or more.)

CMA does amazing work, if I say so myself, as a not-for-profit providing information, reviews and advocacy for a world where children’s safety, wellbeing and rights as users of digital and screen media are paramount. Over the years, our traditional sources of funding have been drying up, and we’re more reliant than ever on individual supporters.

If you’re a listener, you’ll already be familiar with the Know Before You Go movie reviews, but my connection to CMA - and its role in shaping me - is evident in pretty much everything I do here.

I love making the podcast, but I’ll love it even more if it can be a way of providing much-needed support to CMA. Please chip in if you can.
