Hi listeners, here is some info about the man behind our new voice.
Glenn Cupit is a developmental psychologist who trained early childhood educators for 37 years at the University of South Australia (and its precursors).
His teaching and research have specialised in child development, with an emphasis on children's interaction with electronic media and children’s spiritual development. He has written about superheroes and fairy princesses, children’s understanding of the risks associated with Internet usage, children’s imitation of sexualised music videos and the role parents can play in aggravating or lessening the impact of advertising on children.
He has applied his expertise outside academia as an advisor to all Australian television networks (except SBS), several independent producers, and the Australian Broadcasting Authority. He has also been active in advocacy for the child audience, including most recently as a consultant to Children and Media Australia.
Outside of his work in psychology, Glenn has been a semi-professional musician, a published composer of children's music, an actor, and a puppeteer.
Glenn grew up in Sydney, and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University and a Master of Arts from the University of NSW (both in psychology and both with honours). His doctorate is from Murdoch University. Now 77 years old, Glenn lives in Adelaide with Cecily, his wife of 53 years. Their two adult sons and four grandchildren are not far away.
Please make him welcome!
